About JABienfang

Everyone has a story, and mine is one of extremes. At least, it was, until I gave my life over to Jesus Christ. There was a time when I was addicted to cigarettes, overindulged in alcohol, had a diet of what is questionably referred to as food, and had no long-term goals or direction. Obviously, this wasn’t a picture of health. At 18 I joined the U.S. Air Force, and served for nearly 10 years. That experience fostered discipline, and I rose to the top within my peer group. I began exercising, then shortly afterward quit smoking and overindulging, and made an attempt at eating what I thought were better foods. Not one to stop at mediocrity, I chose the bodybuilding lifestyle where competition is king. For those that don’t know, it can be a grueling, restrictive, and self-centered existence. Can you say, “unhealthy”? Wanting to know more about nutrition in order to “have an edge”, I began taking classes at a local community college. There I found out how little I really knew about choosing healthy foods, the importance of balance in the diet, and how incredibly amazing the human body is in design and function. The years of bodybuilding were taking a toll; the night classes and full time work schedule were exhausting. Realizing I couldn’t carry such a load on my own, I chose to give my life to Christ. So, on faith, I left active duty military to pursue a degree in ‘dietetics’, and in ‘nutrition, fitness, and health’ at Purdue University. After finishing my bachelor of science, I was led to Colorado State University to earn a master’s degree in ‘dietetics’. I also joined the Air Force Reserves, and served as a ‘diet therapist’. Today I am blessed with a wonderful husband and children, and a truly healthy life. God has shown me patience and love, and is teaching me to be a servant. As a Registered Dietitian, it is my desire to be a helper and coach for those who want to take charge of their health and better their lives through nutrition and lifestyle choices. First Family Church Wellness Ministry has a vision for helping people help themselves to lead healthy lives of superior quality. The Wellness Ministry is a growing and blessed resource for ‘the body’, and I am excited to be on the team.
